OPT-SMC: Benin project

Benin implemented SMC for the first time in 2019. In 2022, Benin implemented SMC from June to September in most areas. Four cycles of SMC were implemented in two districts and children aged 3-59 months were targeted while three cycles were implemented in five regions. SMC coverage results obtained were about 52.1% for 2022.

To optimize SMC, Benin decided to monitor the effectiveness of SMC in the northern part of the country using the case-control method.
