In The Gambia, the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) with technical support from CRS is working to extend the distribution of SMC drugs beyond the traditional age group of 3 to 59 months to include children aged 60 to 119 months in two endemic regions of The Gambia (Upper River and Central Regions).

Within the first semester of the SMC Impact project in The Gambia, the NMCP and CRS worked together on advocacy meetings with the Ministry of Health into the project’s objectives, revising training modules, data collection tools and sensitization materials. Finally, the SMC drugs were procured, and a quality control test was conducted.

The training of community-based distributors, supervisors, health centre staff and mobilizers on intervention were carried out in the second semester of the project before the start of the campaign planned for September, 2021.
