WHO Malaria Guidelines: Latest Updates and Consolidated Recommendations

The WHO Guidelines for Malaria provide the most up-to-date, evidence-based recommendations for malaria prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, all accessible on a user-friendly online platform. These guidelines replace two previous WHO publications: Guidelines for the Treatment of Malaria (Third Edition) and Guidelines for Malaria Vector Control.

WHO continuously reviews and updates malaria recommendations based on the latest scientific evidence. Any revisions will be clearly marked with the date of the latest update in the MAGICapp platform. A newly consolidated PDF version of the guidelines will also be available for download on the WHO website with each update.

The latest version includes:

  • Updated recommendations for malaria vaccines
  • New guidance on near-patient qualitative and semiquantitative G6PD tests to guide anti-relapse treatment of P. vivax and P. ovale
  • Revised recommendations on primaquine and tafenoquine use

This edition replaces previous versions published between February 2021 and October 2023. Stay informed with the latest malaria guidelines by accessing the WHO website.
