The OPT-SMC project featured at TDR and MMV’s anniversary symposium at ASTMH

The Optimizing Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention project was featured at the American Society of Tropical Medicine Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, which took place from the 13-17th of November, 2024. The project was presented by Dr. Fatimata Bintou Sall at a joint celebration of TDR’s 50th anniversary and Medicines for Malaria Venture’s 25th anniversary.

The project’s successes in helping countries deliver SMC  in a more efficient way was presented. The project was presented as part of a suite of interventions, including vaccines, insecticide treated bed nets, medicines and biologicals, developed and supported by MMV and TDR's and their partners and how when these interventions are used complementarily and sub-tailored to the geographical area of focus, can help accelerate malaria elimination.

Dr. Bintou Sall said the OPT-SMC project has helped to expand coverage of SMC, deliver SMC alongside other interventions and improve the overall effectiveness of the implementation of SMC.
